We honestly could not recommend Velveteen enough. As soon as you walk through the doors you start to relax, each part of the beautiful decor has been considered to create not only a visually stunning place to stay, but also a thoroughly relaxing one. We’ve already been guests at Velveteen four times and are looking forward to returning again - already booked a stay for next month and 2 weeks in the summer. The owners could not make you feel more welcome, with a beautiful hammer always waiting your arrival. If you want somewhere beautiful and perfectly positioned to discover the gorgeous village of Helmsley, and surrounding areas then this is the perfect place for you.

Helmsley is a wonderful location. Such a beautiful looking village with plenty going on. Nearby Harome has 2 incredible restaurants as well. The cottage is just superb. The facilities are first class. Add in the spa facilities and you have the most relaxing holiday you can think of. Highly recommended.

We had a fabulous 2-week stay in August 2025. The cottage is lovely: extremely comfortable, well equipped, spacious, and bright. In addition, the hosts were so thoughtful throughout. Helmsley is a gem of a village and the perfect location for exploring Yorkshire. So all things considered, a fantastic holiday. Cannot wait to go back!!

Fabulous cottage in the perfect location of Helmsley. There was plenty of room to spread out between the kitchen/diner & cinema room. The very large TV was great to watch after a day out. Lovely bedrooms & bathrooms. We felt very at home in this lovely property. Helmsley Centre is just a 5 minute walk, the scones at Mannion & Co are to die for, we had a wonderful meal at Coopers (well worth a visit), lovely independent shops to wander about & lots to see & do in this lovely market town. We loved it!

From arrival to leaving we had the best time! Cottage is one of the most comfortable we have ever stayed in. Cinema room brilliant and a superb kitchen. Great location we hike a lot so most walks with 10-15 mins away. Stunning landscapes made better by amazing weather. Give this place a go you'll love it!

This is a lovely house, very warm and welcoming, in a great situation for exploring Helmsley and surrounding area without even needing the car, but also within easy reach of the rest of North Yorkshire. We would definitely recommend this as a great place to stay.

What a beautiful property. The owners have really done their best to ensure everything you need is on hand. Lovely quality furnishings and bedding. Great location within 5 minutes walk of Helmsley town square where there are some lovely dog friendly places to eat out. Totally dog safe garden where we were happy to let our dogs wander in and out (one thing we always worry about, but there was definitely no concern here). We would love to stay again if we return to the area in the future.

We loved our stay at the Velveteen Bathhouse and definitely will be returning. Helmsley is one of our favourite places to stay but this holiday we had our Rottweiler with us so we needed a bit more space than a hotel. The cottage is so well thought out for everything you need including additional dog towels. Christina & Phil even put up Christmas tree & decorations which just added to the charm of the place. It is a fabulous, perfectly located, dog friendly holiday cottage.
