When we designed The Velveteen Bath House we wanted to make sure every member of the family could come and enjoy it, and that includes all those fur-babies out there.
This is our gorgeous boy Harry, he’s a 5 year old Cavapoo who loves nothing more than cuddles and a good run around the countryside. He’s also partial to a spot of fresh fox poo, which is a shame but what can you do!

Beautiful Walks From the Doorstep
Helmsley is blessed with some beautiful walking trails, both long and short. Whether you fancy a quick dander around the shops with your doggie or need to give those 4 legs a proper run, its all possible from the doorstep of Velveteen.
One of our favourites with Harry is the hour long circular walk up to the woodlands behind Helmsley, heading back down into the town via the cricket ground for a well deserved coffee and cake.
There’s also the glorious Duncombe Park Estate set on the edge of the town – the walk along the river here to Rievaulx Abbey is stunning!
Or if you want a proper hike with your furry friend, the iconic Cleveland Way actually starts from Helmsley – you can walk as far as you like on this gorgeous trail taking you through miles of farmland, woods and moors.
Dog-friendly Pubs & Shops in Helmsley
Helmsley itself is super dog-friendly – your pooch is welcome in all of the pubs here as well as many of the local shops and cafes.
What better way to end your dog walk than a pint by the fire. The Helmsley Brewing Co. has a very cosy little bar with a wood burner, perfect to warm your toes and dry off wet coats. Or head over to The Feathers and nestle in by the huge open fire for more of the same.
Plenty of options for eats too. Our favourites include Mannion & Co. and The Vinehouse Cafe – both offering an excellent menu and both dog-friendly!
Dog Friendly Facilities & Extras
We have designed The Velveteen Bath House to be as dog-friendly as possible.
There are hard floors throughout downstairs, a generous fully enclosed rear garden where your pooch can run around safely, water hoses front and rear to wash down muddy paws and stair gates installed to keep them where you want them to be.
